Note: The disciples were already in fellowship with Christ (v. 2). Then he “began to wash,” from “nipto,” meaning to cleanse or perform ablution on a part of the body. This word is used for washing individual parts, like the face (Mat. 6:17), hands (Mat. 15:2), eyes (John 9:7), feet (I Tim. 5:10).
H. He That Is “Washed” [S:3068 Louo; the whole body baptized] – John 13:10 Note: In contrast, the word “louo,” meaning “bathe one’s whole body” (Acts 9:37; Heb. 10:22; Rev. 1:5). Bathing the whole body equates to “justification” (Luke 7:29-30 vs. Acts 19:3-5; I Pet. 3:21; ...). However, “sanctification” equates to “nipto,” which is continually needed (Exo. 3:5; James 1:5, 27 (unspotted); 1 Thes. 5:23).
