JOHN BAPTIST HAD SEEN THE DOVE lighting upon Jesus at the river Jordan!
And He heard the voice of the Father thunder out of the clouds, confirming that this selfsame Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah.
And John Himself even vouched for the messiahship of the Lord Jesus, exclaiming,
"Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29).
Yet after a series of trials and tribulations over the next few months, John began to doubt if Jesus was truly the Messiah.
As it is written,
"When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto Thee, saying, Art Thou He that should come? or look we for another?" (Luke 7:20).
He saw the heavenly dove.
He heard the heavenly voice.
Yet, eventually, he actually doubted the messiahship of Jesus.
All of this goes to prove you cannot build faith through the senses.
You can only build faith by feeding on God's Word.
For it is written,
"So, then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God" (Romans 10:17).
NEWSFLASH: Faith comes from the Word, not through the senses!
The senses can momentarily stimulate faith by what miracles you see, hear and feel but you cannot grow your faith through your senses.
"For we walk by faith not by the senses" (2 Corinthians 5:7, PBV).
That is precisely why John Baptist doubted Jesus after having seen the heavenly dove and having heard the heavenly voice.
Wherefore, if you desire to build unbreakable faith in the Lord, you must do so by way of daily meditation in the Word not by way of the five senses of the body.
Sense-ruled Christians will always have shaky faith.
Word-ruled Christians will always have unshakeable faith.
Build your faith on the Word by the Word, and you will live continuously in the realm of the miraculous.
Believe the prophet!
